The Dewey Beach municipal election, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21, was cancelled when only three people filed for the three open seats on town council.
Mayor Diane Hanson and Commissioner Anna Legates will retain their spots; Commissioner Joy Howell did not file for re-election.
Thirty-year property owner Ellen Danaher, who filed Aug. 19, will replace Howell on town council. No date has yet been set for Danaher to take her seat on council.

The Dewey Beach Civic League is hosting the Candidates Forum on Saturday, August 24 at 4:00 pm, Lions’ Club House, Dewey Beach. The Civic League will pose questions to the candidates for Town Commissioner, followed by questions from the audience, and responses from all candidates.
Light refreshments from a local restaurant will be provided after the estimated 1 hour for the formal portion of the program.

The Dewey Beach Scavenger Hunt will take place Saturday, Aug. 3, from noon to 8 p.m. Teams will try to find random items, take pictures at different landmarks, visit nearly a dozen Dewey bars, complete challenges and answer trivia in attempt to be crowned the 2013 Dewey Beach Scavenger Hunt Champions.
Pre- and post-parties will be held around the hunt itself. The registration and pre-party will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at The Starboard. After a four-hour scavenger hunt throughout Dewey, teams will return to The Starboard for the post party, where they will be judged and awarded prizes from 6 to 8 p.m.
Prizes this year include personalized Miller Lite beer fridges, coolers, grills, tickets and beach gear. All participants will also receive a special event koozie.

Delaware’s beaches have been recognized for the cleanest water quality in the nation, with Rehoboth and Dewey recognized as two of the country’s 13 “Superstar Beaches” for their perfect swimming water quality for the past four years, according to the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC). The non-partisan international environmental advocacy group annually assesses all beaches in 30 coastal states. The NRDC also recognized DNREC’s Recreational Water Quality Testing Program as one of the most comprehensive in the nation.Read More
