Highlights of Town Council Meeting of December 8, 2007

All Commissioners were present for the meeting, which was more lightly attended than usual.  The meeting covered a range of miscellaneous topics, starting at 9:00 am and lasting until after 2:00 pm.  The following are the primary topics that were covered.

The previously submitted application for the opening of Jimmie’s Grill restaurant was approved, with some minor modifications.

A final report of the previously established Ruddertowne Architectural Committee had been submitted by its former Chairman Mike Eisenhauer, who has since left the Town Council.  The Council discussed at length whether to accept the report and decided by a vote of 4-1 (with Commissioner Walsh being the lone dissenting vote) not to accept this report.  The primary reasons specified were that the report was out of order procedurally since Mr. Eisenhauer was no longer in office, the report did not appear to be an act of the full committee, and the committee had been disbanded months ago.  Several commissioners also felt that the report contained a number of inaccurate statements about the committee’s work and charter, as well as the mandate and approval of the committee’s work by the Council.  For a more complete report on this matter, see the related Cape Gazette article.

The previously proposed sports festival to be held in June, 2008, featuring a volleyball tournament and skimboarding, among other attractions, was approved and will move forward.

The previously submitted town budget was approved.  See an analysis of the budget,

Todd Fritchman, the chief lifeguard, gave a report on the activities of a nature camp sponsored by the guards.

Note that the Council has decided not to meet in January, so the next meeting will be on February 9, 2008.
